Christian Gaming Basics

If you're just getting into Christian Gaming, then here are some tips on how to monitor you're games and gaming habits. First always, ALWAYS, look at the game rating! (ESRB is the United States game rating service) As warning, the ESRB does leave out minor issues that would be offensive to Christians. Such as the use of d***, uses of h***, minor uses of the Lords name in vain (i.e. the exclamation of "Jesus!"), the abbreviation SOB, and scantily clad characters are all some overlooked content I have encountered in my gaming experience. The things the ESRB does cover, is pretty much everything else you can imagine, from Strong Language, to Comic Mischief. Also if you are still hesitant about getting a game after reading the ESRB rating, look at the other rating companies for other parts of the world. You can also look at gameplay videos on YouTube on the content of you're choice. To find full Christian Reviews you can visit this site which covers just about every pixel of games and tells of them in a Christian perspective. If something is not covered in the review, it most likely will be covered in the comments section below the post.

Gaming habits should be restrained to fit you're schedule, and games shouldn't be played in extensive amounts (i.e. 24 hours strait). You also shouldn't become superlatively addicted to video games, for in this case they become an idol. I myself am a video game addict, but not to the superlative degree. I can restrain myself from playing all day and all night long. You should be able to do the same. If you get easily addicted you might want to stay away from online games. More so games such as World of Warcraft, EverQuest, League of Legends, and so forth. Also particular offline games that are highly addictive are Champions of Norrath and Champions Return to Arms, the Civilization series, the Baldur's Gate series, the Elder Scrolls, and other such games like that. RPG games are usually the most addictive genre. EverQuest has actually been nicknamed 'EverCrack' as a reference to crack cocaine since some people find it that addictive. So be wary of these if you get addicted easily. If you don't know, then go ahead and try one of them. I suggest an offline game so you don't have to pay monthly fees...or you can try the World of Warcraft free trial.
