Ahh, the Sly Cooper series. Pure enjoyment. Truly one of the best series’ in the PS2 library. The graphics, the gameplay, the sound, everything is remarkable!
There are three games in the series, all of which are spectacular and also rated E-E10+ I might add. You do play the role of a thief in the series BUT it is meant in the best possible way (all of the characters are animals), and none of it makes thieving intriguing to a younger player while still being fun to play. Since you are a thief, this is basically a stealth game, kind of like Splinter Cell. Sly, a raccoon; Bentley, a turtle; and Murray a hippopotamus, are the main characters, but not the only thieves. In every game there are different enemy thieves. Obviously if there are thieves are cops; of which Carmelita Fox is one of.
THE FOLLOWING CONTAINS SPOILERS. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.
The games in the series are:
Game 1: Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus.
The first question most people ask is, what in the world is a Thievius Raccoonus??? The Thievius Raccoonus is Sly’s family book of thieving secrets. Get it? Thievius, for thieving, and Raccoonus since Sly and his family are raccoons. The story goes, when Sly was little his parents were attacked by the Fiendish Five, and enemy thieving group, and they stole the Thievius Raccoonus, tore it apart, and concealed it in their own hideouts. Sly was put in an orphanage, where he met Bentley and Murray. Together they formed their trio to go find all of the pages of the Thievius Raccoonus.
Game 2: Sly 2: Band of Thieves
In the sequel to the original Sly Cooper game has Sly and the gang heading out to steal the Clockwerk parts from when they defeated Clockwerk at the end of the first game. They are being held in a secret place by Interpol so that no one can ever bring Clockwerk back to life, but Sly knows all the secrets of how to break into Interpol security and also know that other thieves do too. So he breaks in to steal the Clockwerk parts from Interpol so he can keep them safe in his own hands. Unfortunately when Sly gets to the Clockwerk chamber the parts have already been stolen! He finds out that the Klaww Gang has stolen the parts so they can bring Clockwerk back to life and be the ultimate thieving gang of the world. Sly knows the absolute power that Clockwerk can bring, so he sets off to steal back the Clockwerk parts so they can never be used again.
Game 3: Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves
This is the longest and largest game of the series. This game takes off from where Sly 2 leaves off, but with a total different story-line. This time Sly, Bentley, and Murray (for about half of the game Murray is with a guru to “find himself” after what happened to Bentley at the end of the second game. But later you convince him to join you again.) are finding Sly’s lost family fortune, which is sealed in a vault only a Cooper can open, on a secluded island. There is one problem though…The evil Dr. M is trying with all of his might to open the Cooper vault, and steal the family fortune. Sly and the gang are set on defeating Dr. M and preventing him from stealing Sly’s family fortune.
All of these games were also re-made for PS3 with very high-def graphics, the support of PlayStation Move controls, and Stereoscopic 3D!
Sucker Punch (the maker of the Sly series) is currently working on the long-awaited Sly Cooper 4: Thieves in Time, which takes place directly after the events occurred at the end of Sly 3!
Also, Sly is in the game PlayStation Move Heroes. A game that includes the greatest PlayStation heroes -- Sly, Jak, and Ratchet – all in one game and one storyline with the option of using PlayStation Move controls.
Overall, the Sly Cooper series is one of the best on the PS2/PS3. You can get all of the PS2 games for $5-10 each, the PS3 collection for $20-30, and PS Move Heroes for about $20.
